TV card or encoder? |
|
TV Card (All in Wonder Radeon)
Advantages
| • | Records MJPEG files. No conversion needed after recording |
| • | Live video input, enabling the user to work the old-fashioned way with mounted time code reader |
Drawbacks
| • | Calibration usually needed |
| • | Computer not available for other tasks while recording |
We recommend:
| • | ATI All in Wonder Radeon |
The program is tailored to this card. Other TV cards may be used for recording (using their own software) and live video input (using their own software).
USB or firewire encoder
Advantages
| • | Computer available for other tasks while recording |
| • | Calibration usually not needed |
Drawbacks
| • | MPEG to MJPEG conversion needed after recording if you want scene change detection |
| • | Live video out of sync (okay for monitoring, though) |
We recommend:
| • | Dazzle DVC (Digital Video Creator) AKA Clipmaster. |
We have tested a lot of encoders and this is the only Dazzle that never drops one single frame. Do not confuse it with other Dazzle DVC products. This one is named DVC and not DVC 90 etcetera. The production is discontinued, but you may buy it secondhand on eBay.
| • | Northq NQ-6600 Video converter |
Inexpensive and excellent encoding tool. Rarely drops a single frame.
