How to record MPEG-1 files using the ATI All in Wonder Radeon card |
|
1) First make sure you have the latest software from ATI installed. MPEG-1 recording hasn't been easy with the AIW, but after the introduction of Multimedia Center version 8.5.0.0 it's a cinch.
All necessary drivers/programs can currently be downloaded from these two addresses:
http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html
http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonopt-xp.html
When all necessary drivers/programs are downloaded, follow this proceeding:
a) Remove old ATI drivers and Multimedia Center using Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs:

b) Install TV capture drivers. Don't reboot
c) Install Display driver. Reboot
d) Install ATI control Panel. Reboot
e) Install Microsoft DirectX 9.0. Reboot
f) Install Microsoft Media Encoder 9.0. Reboot
g) Install DAO/MDAC Component Package. Reboot if prompted
h) Install ATI Multimedia Center 8.5.0.0. Reboot
If you are having trouble installing your TV tuner (DirectX 9b may cause this problem), you also need to download and install this patch:
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/directx9bhotfix.html
2) When installed, run the MMC's TV option: Start/programs/ATI Multimedia Center/TV:

3) Right click the TV screen and select the Setup Menu:

4) On the Personal Video recorder tab, select "Good" and click "Map Preset":

5) Select "Create New":

6) Name the new profile "TitleVision MPEG-1" and use these settings:

7) Save the profile and go one step back. Make sure that "TitleVision MPEG-1" is selected instead of "Good", before you click "Disk Space":

8) Select these settings (substitute F.\ in the example with your video clip directory):

9) Congratulations. Now you are ready to record MPEG-1 files. Run the MMC's TV option: Start/programs/ATI Multimedia Center/TV and choose the Record Option:

10) When you have recorded an MPEG-1 clip with these settings, convert it to AVI using VirtualDub and calibrate it.
